Upon the closing of this project, one message will be selectively chosen from each of the 26 bottles. A separate, one-of-a-kind glass object will be created based on each chosen message, and the corresponding participant will recieve partial accreditation and a 10% commission on the subsequent sale of that particular piece.
There are no restrictions on submissions. You can write whatever you’d like, to as many letter designations as you’d like. Send a few words, or send a story; send a confession, a secret, a memorial, a love-letter, an announcement, a simple observation - anything.
* While the second stage of the project has begun, submissions are still welcome.
You may send them to glassturner@gmail.com. Include the intended letter bottle in the subject line. Names and locations are optional, but encouraged.
In simple terms, the internet is merely a collection of personal gestures. And with the proliferation of blogging, social networks, viral video, and open-content websites, the potential exposure for ones personal expression seems infinite. However, with that same potential comes the likely risk of becoming obscured in a sea of individualism. Open-Contents is a gateway project linking the physical world of arts and craft with the voluntary electronic community. As an installation of 26 hand made bottles, collectively representing the letters on a keyboard, participants are encouraged to submit their own message, via website, to the character of their choosing. For every electronic submission, the message will be printed and kept within the corresponding bottle. As the bottles fill up, the grouping ceases to be a collection of glass, but rather a collection of personal gestures. Much like the electronic counterparts that inhabit the internet, these gestures are recorded and archived, but not necessarily discovered.
